A hidden gem of our province, 45 minutes from Halifax is Hubbards- a community on St. Margarets Bay.  For the month of July, this small community has an event for just about everybody.

Starting on July 8th, watch movies under the stars at the Hubbards Amphitheatre, located at the Hubbards Community Waterfront Park.  The Hubbards Summer Film Series will be playing Star Wars, Episode VII at 9pm.  On the 22nd E.T- The Extra-Terrestrial (G) will be playing at 8:30pm.  Cost is “pay what you can”.  Drinks and snacks will be available for purchase and be sure to bring a blanket and lawn chair.  In case of poor weather the movies will be held the following Friday.  Please see hubbardscove.ca or Hubbards Community Waterfront on Facebook for move information!

On July 9th, the Hubbards Barn will be hosting a food truck rally, partnering with the Nova Scotia Food Truck Association with all sorts of selections of food.  This event will be taking place from 4-8 pm at the Hubbards Barn & Community Park.  The barn will be open for seating and music will be provided by John Cole Porter & the KickAssMatics.  A donation fee of $2 is suggested for he continued maintenance and improvement of the Hubbards Barn & Community Park.

From July 15-17, take a drive along the beautiful Aspotogan Peninsula (Hwy 329), as part of the Peggy’s Cove Area Festival of the Arts Studio Tour.  Enjoy coastal scenery and see the works of many artists in one location.  Light refreshments will be available.  Open 10am- 5pm.  Visit www.peggyscoveareafestivalofthearts.com or call 902-820-5199 for more information about the festival.

On July 23rd at 11am, the 34th Annual World Tuna Flat Races will be taking place at the Hubbards Cove Waterfront Park. Enter your business, association or get a group of friends together to go for gold!  Teams of four in either the mens, women or youth division race “Tuna Flats” over a quarter mile course.  Registration is $40 per team with races staring at 12. There will also be a beer tent, BBQ and free children’s events.  For more information check out the World Tuna Flat Races Facebook page.

Watch out for zombies at the Hubbards Barn July 24th!! At 6:30 pm, join in on a tag game of Humans vs. Zombies.  All players begin as humans except one which is chosen to be the original zombie.  Once you are tagged the fun escalates! Bring a bandana, foam dart blaster and/or socks.  This is an event for kids and adults, and free for everyone.

Join the Rec staff and Rod Scott for a fun Summer Sizzler on July 31st from 1-4pm at Bayswater Beach for a fun day in the sun.  There will be lots of games and prizes, and of course a sand sculpture competition!  All ages are welcome for this free event.  For more information call 902-275-3490.

Later on in the evening of the 31st, stop by The Dauphinee Inn for a Ceilidh on the Cove at 6pm.  Enjoy local and keltic music, Special Olympics BBQ, a giant cake and the largest display of fireworks ever on the Hubbards Cove at dusk.  This is a fun free family event!  For more information call 902-857-1790.
